Do you snap your infant seat onto shopping carts?

If so, what kind of child do you have? If the seat is specifically designed to snap on shopping carts, or do you just snap it up, because it works?

I have the Graco snug ride and snap it onto shopping carts. I don’t know whether or not it was designed to do so, but everyone I know snaps them on and it works perfectly, so I always have.

I have a Graco and while it does not snap it fits in shopping carts pretty well.

  3. Jan M Says:

I did, it had the little clip on it to attach to the bars on the cart and I always kept my hand on it as well.

  4. M k Says:

I don’t. From the information that I have heard, there are no car seats specifically designed to fit onto shopping carts, they just happen to do so. In fact the car seat manufacturer pamphlets often state to not place a car seat into a shopping cart basket for safety reasons. I put him in the basket, carry him in a front carrier so I can have a whole shopping basket, or bring Dad along to push the cart while I have the baby in a stroller. Better safe than sorry.

  6. Hurley is 5 months old! ♥ Says:

When my son was about a month old it was the first time I took him out. He is my first, and since I saw everyone else doing it I thought it was okay. Well when I was coming out of the store, when I pushed the cart over the door way, his carseat came unsnapped and the weight of it almost toppled the whole cart over. Thank GOD I was able to catch the carseat. I have NEVER been so scared. When I got home I found this article, and I will never do it again…

Most all carseats snap into place on shopping carts. And if they don’t you can always just sit the baby in the basket.

With Emma I did. I had an Evenflo. Not sure if it is designed too….but it fit perfectly. With Laura I won’t just b/c Emma will be in the cart so Laura will be in a sling. I didn’t know about slings with Emma.

I put the seat in the basket, I don’t snap it. The Chicco carseats don’t snap.

I did at first because I thought thats what you do. It wasn’t until later, on yahoo that I learned that you actually aren’t suppose too. The clip on my car seat did snap onto the cart, but that clip is made there actually to snap onto my son stroller.

After finding out it wasn’t safe, I tried not to do it anymore. Instead I would just plan shopping to do as a family, and my husband would either carry or push my son in the stroller. Now my son is older, so he just rides in the cart seat, which is sooo nice!

I have a Graco, and I did that a few times, but I have heard stories like Hurleys moms and I hated every second of having him snapped in there. I dont think it is safe. I did it maybe 4 times and of those times I cut 2 of the trips really really short because it made me so nervous. I had seen it done so often, I assumed it was safe, but it never felt secure to me.

Now that he is 10 mo, I have a floppy seat/lilypad that I use to pad the shopping cart and like that much better. I used to bring the stroller and just buy whatever I could fit, or put the seat inside the shopping cart. But what usually worked best was wearing him in a Baby Bjorn. I couldnt pick up heavy things like water bottle flats, but it kept him safe and happy while I shopped a bit.

  12. ♥Sarah & Gracie's Mommy♥ Says:

It was suppose to snap on . We have the Graco SafeTSeat “French Roast” its the Bigger one that Graco makes..hold up to 35lbs. UGH ..because of it being bigger, we had a hard time snapping the seat onto shopping carts….we always had to hold it cus we were to scared it was going to get pushed over lol. It wouldn;t even snap onto a Costco Cart and they are big. So many times hubby would break out the carrier and use that . He loved it anyways. Now with a new baby, mommy will use the carrier more and Sarah will sit in the cart..make it a lot easier. :D

    Nope…they ride in their sling.

  14. alucard1366613 Says:

Every infant seat that I have had (5-6 for 4 children) tell you in the instruction DO NOT place on shopping carts including a snug ride.

Most car seat are not meant to snap on carts but do fit since most have a notch on the bottom of the seat and allot of people think this is meant so you can put the seat on a cart but is is actually a notch for the base.

Even the The American Academy of Pediatrics says Parents and caregivers should never Place an infant carrier on top of the shopping carts. Many infant-only car safety seats fit on shopping carts,This may seem safe, but thousands of children are hurt every year from falling off of shopping carts or from the carts tipping over.

It’s safer to put the car seat in the cart where the groceries go if not getting much or carry baby in a sling

  15. Ella's Mom Says:

You are NOT supposed to as it can fall out and cause injury to the child. I did anyway a few times and was really paranoid about it.

After a while I put it in the basket part of the shopping cart and although you don’t have much room for groceries, the peace of mind is priceless and no chance on that falling off.

Also, it sometime is possible to put the carseat sideways in the front seat. But test it to make sure it is stable.

But it SUCKS to grocery shop with a newborn. Make your hubby watch the baby while you shop.

  16. mystic_eye_cda Says:

    No, I don’t because:
    a) I actually read the manual and it specifically says doing so can damage the seat. Its an older graco model no longer available.
    b) even if your seat says it can (which as far as I know none do) it would make the cart tippier
    c) Car seats are for CARS. Which is pretty much the only time I use it, in fact unless its very cold I don’t even bring it in the house because I just don’t have room

Just stick the baby in a carrier, that solves all problems and you can nurse and shop at the same time.
